Tutoring Guidelines
Students are allowed a maximum of 3 scheduled tutoring hours at a time. However, there are no restrictions for students using drop-in services. For example, a student can schedule a one-hour appointment in the Writing Center, the Math Resource Center, and Peer Tutoring, and still take advantage of drop-in math tutoring within the same week. This policy is designed to ensure fairness and equitable access to services for all NHCC students. If a student feels they require more than the allotted 3 hours at a time, please refer them to the Peer Tutor Coordinator at tutoring@nhcc.edu or (763) 424-0927.
Students are not allowed to book back-to-back appointments, meaning up to 2 hours with 1 tutor without the consent from the tutor. If this is done before the tutor’s consent is received, appointments may be readjusted or rescheduled.
Tutors are not permitted to tutor outside of Tutoring Center operating hours. Tutor.com is available 24/7 for students needing appointments outside Tutoring Center service hours. More information about how to access tutor.com is listed below.
As a learning environment, the Tutoring Center can help students understand NHCC’s Academic Integrity Policy, navigate the challenges of obeying the policy, and complete work that aligns with the policy’s application in specific courses.

The Tutoring Center upholds toward equity and inclusion in its space and in the work done by its staff. We strive to create a safe, welcoming space for students and community members from all walks of life to be able to access the resources they need with respect and dignity. We recognize the deeply personal nature of some tutoring and aim to create an environment that fosters empathy and is committed to listening, learning, and academic support. Under no circumstances will behavior that discriminates against others, harasses peers or employees, and/or violates this commitment be tolerated, and if such behavior occurs, individuals will be escorted out of the space and potentially banned from the area.

Math Resource Center:
The Math Resource Center offers both drop-in and appointment tutoring sessions both in-person or via Zoom to all math and math related subjects. Appointments are 1-hour slots. On the other hand, for drop-ins, you can meet with a tutor for 15-minute slots or ask up to 5 questions, whichever happens first. Then, you are encouraged to work on your own and come back when you have more questions. This process continues until you understand the material or have completed your assignment. To do a drop-in, please stop by the Tutoring Front Desk to check-in.
General Tutoring:
General Tutoring offers appointments in-person or via Zoom for all subject matter, such as psychology, biology, chemistry, nursing, accounting, computer science, paralegal, and more. Drop-ins may be available. Appointments are 1-hour slots.
Writing Center:
The Writing Center offers appointments and drop-in tutoring sessions both in-person or via Zoom for all writing needs, not just writing courses. Appointments are 1-hour slots and drops-in are in-person only with first come first serve. To do a drop-in, please stop by the Tutoring Front desk to check-in. Additionally, the Writing Center does NOT take drop-off essays since we value the learning experience that happens when a student meets with a tutor.
